Grant Writing Workshop in Baton Rouge ~ August 6-7, 2009


Louisiana State Police Training Academy and Grant Writing USA will present a two-day grant writing workshop in Baton Rouge, August 6-7, 2009.  Beginning and experienced grant writers from city, parish and state agencies, as well as nonprofits, K-12, colleges and universities are encouraged to attend.   Purchase orders, checks and cards are welcome.  Multi-enrollment discounts are available.  Tuition payment is not required at the time of enrollment. Tuition is $425 and includes all materials: workbook and accompanying 420MB resource CD that's packed full of tools and more than 200 sample grant proposals.  Seating is limited, online reservations are necessary.

Book Published on Shreveport Fire Department Bomb Squad

A copy of "The History of the Shreveport Fire Department's Bomb Squad (1962-2008)" was presented Friday by author Gene Barattini to two of the books primary sources, Terry Hayes and C.G. Vaughn.

Terry Hayes
, a retired Shreveport Fire Department Chief of Fire Prevention, Bomb Technician and a founding member of the Louisiana Arson and Fire Prevention Association (LA&FPA) and Pasr President.
  Terry is also a  Past President of the Louisiana State Firemen's Association, elected in 1965.

C.G. Vaughn, a World War II veteran, is a former Army Explosive Ordnance Detachment Commander and former Caddo-Bossier Civil Defense Training Officer.

sfd_bomb_squad_book.gifThe 68-page, illustrated book chronicles the City of Shreveport Bomb Squad from its beginning in 1962 to the state-of-the-art section as it is today.

Barattini, a local emergency manager, educator and historian, spent months researching the book and interviewing current and retired Shreveport Firefighters.
